Where Is Logan Gilbert?

Gilbert’s draft status suffered a setback in the spring of 2018 as a result of an inconsistent junior season at Stetson, which was mostly due to a case of mono.

The Mariners had seen him flourish in the Cape Cod League during the summer and saw his play improve shortly before the Draft, giving them the confidence to take him 14th overall and sign him for full draft value.

He paid back the organization’s faith by dominating at three levels and reaching Double-A in his first full season.

Pitcher of the Year for the Atlantic Sun Gilbert has had a four-pitch mix at his disposal since he was a sophomore, and all of them improved in 2019.

He’s bigger and more physical than he was in college, and his fastball now sits in the mid-90s with a top speed of 97 mph.

He maintains his velocity well through starts. Although his powerful slider is superior to his average curve, they are two separate breaking balls. He has an above-average changeup that he blends in efficiently.

Because he can throw all four of his pitches for strikes, and he only walked 2.2 batters per nine innings in his first full season, he has the potential for plus control.

That has put him on the fast track, and he should be able to contribute to the Mariners’ staff in the near future, with a ceiling of possibly a No. 2 or 3 starter.
