He did, however, participate in basketball and football. In his junior year, his basketball teammates persuaded him to try out for the baseball team, and with little practice, he was able to throw over 80 mph (130 km/h).

Corbin had an 8–0 win–loss record as a senior at C-NS in 2007, allowing only 33 hits and 16 runs while striking out 76 batters in 47 innings pitched.

Corbin was chosen to the All-League squad and first team All-Central New York, and C-NS became the top-ranked team in the state of New York. With a 14–0 record and 139 strikeouts, he graduated from C-NS.

Corbin set a school record for most three-point field goals in a single game for the C-NS basketball team. After his senior year, he was chosen to the All-Section Basketball team.

Corbin’s grades at C-NS were insufficient to allow him to attend a four-year college and play college baseball.

As a result, for his freshman year, Corbin enrolled at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. Corbin was a baseball and basketball player during his time at Mohawk.

Corbin was signed as an undrafted free agent for a $75,000 signing bonus by scouts from two different organizations. Despite Corbin’s father’s desire to sign his kid, Corbin’s coach advised them to wait another season.

After the season, Corbin joined a travel baseball team, where scouts took notice of his fastball, which reached speeds of over 90 miles per hour (140 kilometers per hour).

Corbin competed against Zack Wheeler’s side in a competition in Georgia.
